Business Models
Wholesale TelephonyWholesale transit traffic exchange is a base of whole VoIP industry. VoIP traffic transit service is supplied by transit telecom operators in a chain-like manner, until the actual call reaches VoIP termination provider and is successfully terminated to local PSTN network. So, the generalized VoIP business scheme may look like this: source customer (the one that calls) → local VoIP service provider → VoIP traffic transit company (or a whole network of them) → VoIP termination provider → PSTN network. So, in truth, transit traffic exchange companies may be considered the transporting medium of VoIP.
Such business setup usually includes a switch, billing server, support for H.323 and SIP protocols and contracts with several origination / termination partners. As such, this is mostly a Class 4 featured type of business, based on post-paid operations.
Let’s take a brief overview of what BillBery can offer for this business model:
- Dynamic routing with profitability and capacity control, to maximize your business incomes;
- Customers management and accounting, tracking of invoices, payments and balances;
- Rate tables management, including smart importing tools, automatic targets and offers generator and more;
- Advanced accounting features, cash flow control, mutual settlements;
- Resellers / agents network of unlimited depth;
- Subscription services and products billing and management;
- Reporting and analyzing tools, including detailed and profitability reports;
- Real-time monitoring and quality control, to keep facilities in perfect shape;
- Rock-solid stability and unparalleled performance;
- Web-based billing workspace, that features convenient user interface. Personal web access is available for you, your resellers, agents, customers and partners.
Retail Telephony
Any VoIP activities start from retail sales of telecom services to end-users. There are many methods of delivering a retail service, most notable are: DID sales and management, office telephony, local telecom provisioning, virtual telecom networks, PC-to-Phone and Phoneto-PC, etc.
Retail services represent a considerable chunk of VoIP market. Since services go straight to end-users, this business model provides widest range of options, rate plans, customerbased eatures etc. Mainly, features of Class switching equipment are used in conjunction ith pre-paid billing type of operations. With BillBery, every single feature of retail business is available to you, even something new, not implemented by anyone else! As an example of features provided by BillBery, we can note the following ones:
- Pre-paid and post-paid access for your customers and credit lines;
- VoIP retail products or any other subscription services billing;
- DID management interface;
- Advanced retail billing policies (rate plans, time profiles, promotions);

PSTN Termination
PSTN termination is what connects VoIP with classic telephony. In fact, it is almost the same as usual wholesale termination in VoIP, the only difference is that such business model requires specific equipment (with TDM / ISDN protocol support) and termination is done right into PSTN network.
With today’s avalanche-like development of VoIP industry, the direct PSTN termination offers further VoIP market expansion and new business opportunities, such as provisioning of new digital services with drastically lowered prices for local and international calls. Surely, these possibilities can’t be ignored, and that’s why PSTN termination business model becomes more and more popular.
As mentioned above, this business type almost copies the general wholesale transit termination setup with addition of TDM / ISDN compliant termination equipment and, of course, a billing solution that supports it. Let’s take a brief look of what BillBery offers:
- Any existing TDM / ISDN compliant equipment support;
- Fast and easy integration with multiple gateways;
- ISUP messages billing and management;
- Smart management and accounting tools;
- Real-time monitoring and fail-safe production environment;

Switch Partitioning
Switch partitioning or outsourced switching is fairly new to VoIP industry, but already proved itself as solid business model. Plainly speaking – you create some leasable facilities based on your equipment, and rent them, allowing other companies / people to conclude their own type of VoIP business. The benefits for customer companies are clearly visible: they will be taking care only of their own business activities, while the partitioner will take care of all technical issues, bugs and maintenance tasks.
Thus, this managed switch partitioning makes it possible for people or companies to terminate calls or data with significantly reduced costs. This encourages even more calls to be made and, therefore, increases business productivity.
With BillBery, you can easily provide such services, and even more, you can easily combine outsourced switching with any other business model you have running. And all of this is available within one licensed BillBery copy. The benefits over generic billing solutions are the following:
- Rent your facilities, even if your switch equipment does not support this functionality;
- Isolated dynamic routing environment for each lessee;
- Independent capacity control for each reseller, customer, account and destination;
- Unified single billing interface for all partition clients and their customers.

Provisioning of calling cards or phone cards, is a type of pre-paid service, that allows your customers to make cheap long distance calls (local or international).
There are no monthly bills, no detailed statements or longstanding subscriptions. The customer simply pays for calling time in advance and is free to make any calls within that balance limit.
BillBery provides you with convenient calling card generation engine, detailed statistics for each calling card and a lot of other features:

A call shop can be situated in key locations of a city, or in specific places such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, universities, supermarkets, schools etc.
BillBery provides integrated call shop module, which is easy to deploy, use and maintain. The benefits it offers for call shop business are hard to ignore:
